Officers attached to the Edo State Police Command on Friday evening shot dead two suspected armed robbers and arrested another after a failed attack on a bank customer in Ego Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, about four, were said to have trailed their victim from Ughelli in Delta State to a new generation bank on Technical College Road where he had gone to make a transaction after receiving information that he wanted to buy a car with the money.
It was learnt that the robbers trailed their victim in a grey Toyota Corolla car and followed him into the bank unnoticed.
According to a source, the suspects shot the victim in the leg as he attempted to exit the bank and reportedly robbed him of the sum of N500, 000.
It was also learnt that the robbers shot sporadically into the air to scare passersby as they attempted to escape.
It was, however, gathered that they ran out of luck when the gunshots attracted the attention of some policemen on patrol, who immediately chased after them. Two of the robbers were said to have been gunned down in the process around the Evbomore area of Ugbowo, off Ugbowo-Lagos Road.
Though the police officers were able to arrest a member of the robbery gang and recovered the stolen cash, the fourth culprit reportedly escaped.
Public Relations Officer for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Nkombe, declined comment on the matter when contacted.
