Long queues of motorists waiting to buy fuel are noticed on Saturday at various filling stations in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where movement restriction is in force due to the ongoing local council area elections.
About 30 council chairmanship and roughly 100 councillorship candidates belonging, mainly, to the two major political parties – the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party – are participating in today’s polls in the six local council areas of the FCT.
Though, none of the filling stations are attending to customers, it was learnt that the motorists had beaten the movement restriction directive by leaving their homes before the ban commenced by 7am today.
Part of the places where long fuel queues are seen include,
Forte Oil opposite Transcorps Hilton Hotel, Central Area, NNPC station, Zone 1, Total and Conoil filling stations opposite NNPC Towers in the Central Area.
Fuel queues are also noticed at Total and other filling stations in Berger area, along the Herbert Macauly Way.
Considering the hardship Nigerians have been going through across the country due to scarcity of the petroleum product, the queueing motorists are hopeful that they would be the first set to be served by the time the movement restriction is lifted about 4pm today.
Meanhile, voting was ongoing in the parts of the FCT visited by our correspondent.
Accreditation with card reader and voting are taking place simultaneously in the places visited by our correspondent.

In these polling units and many others, as of 12pm, few voters who voters who turned out for the election had already voted, leaving the polling officials to waiting till 2pm to close voting and commence the counting of votes.
