Sani Kaita says the Super Eagles will benefit from the friendly matches against Mali and Luxembourg in May and June respectively.
Nigeria play Mali in Paris on May 27 before playing Luxembourg at home in June.
Kaita told our correspondent that the Eagles should play a series of friendly games ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
“The friendly matches are good for the team. It is good for teams to play friendly games because they help the players,” he said.
“The coach (Nigeria’s caretaker Salisu Yusuf) needs these matches to build a solid team.
“Mali is an African country and the game will help prepare the Super Eagles for the qualifiers because they will begin that in October. Nigeria need players who will be playing regularly for the team.
“Players from the home league should be the ones that will be there more while the ones coming from abroad will increase the competition in the team. In all, the more friendlies Nigeria play, the easier it will be to select our starting team when tough and important matches are to be played.”
