The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) is urging the Nigerian government and anti-graft agencies to investigate the alleged accomplices of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and her predecessor, Sadiya Farouq.
CISLAC’s Executive Director, Auwal Rafsanjani, stated that those involved in the alleged fraud must be brought to light for a deeper understanding of the issue. According to him, it was pathetic that a ministry that should be sympathetic to the citizens was caught in the web of alleged fund diversions.
He also called for President Bola Tinubu to implement comprehensive reforms across various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to address the issue of fund diversions, not limited to the humanitarian ministry.
The rights activist appreciated the government’s inquiry into the minister and her predecessor, highlighting the financial instability in the country. The activist assured that they would persist in pursuing justice and suggested that there may be other cases to address.
