Traditional rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON), in the Niger Delta region have commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership style, noting that he has expressed good governance in the past few weeks in office.
The leadership of the group made this commendation yesterday, during a media chat in Port Harcourt, while speaking on issues trending around the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the public domain.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs from the oil mineral communities across the region, His Majesty, Dr. Obafemi Ogbaro, 1st Deputy National Chairman of TROMPCON, said that Tinubu in his few weeks in office is tackling the issues of corruption, restoring good governance and sanity of democracy in the country.
The monarchs said that the activeness of the president is seen from his action on fuel subsidy, restructuring of service chiefs and reapportionment of new ones, and others. They also congratulated Tinubu on his emergence as ECOWAS Chairman.
He said: “The leadership of the TROMPCON with delight in the affairs of the Niger Delta region wishes to thank and appreciate the leadership style of the President and Commander in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We the royal fathers applaud some of the innovative changes especially the termination of fuel subsidy, suspension of some top public administrators to allow for proper check of corruption and inculcation of the spirit of good governance and sanity of democracy.
“The TROMPCON also congratulates Mr. President for his recent appointment as chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) which is a further attestation to the fact that Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an economic guru.”
However, the group has expressed delight over the dissolution of the NDDC’s board, just as they have thrown their support on the leadership of the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, of the commission.
The TROMPCON further insisted that the consistent dissolution of the board of NDDC without allowing the leadership to complete its project, has caused delay in the development of the region.
According to the group, “this action is greeted with joy because the inherent advantages cannot be over emphasised. We nod our heads in this direction for especially dissolving the NDDC board and the Management to stay for continuity of discharge of core mandate for which the NDDC was created.
“We would however bare our minds on the incessant of dissolution of the NDDC Board. From inception only very few, perhaps not more than two boards have survived their four-year tenures as prescribed by law.
“This trend has caused instability, fear of the unknown, accentuation of corruption instead of curbing it. Not only that it does not encourage completion of projects but allows improper execution of jobs and other associated social vices. It is condemnable.”
