Participants in Saturday’s ward congress election of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State have lauded the exercise, describing it as credible.
The exercise, which held at ward centres across the state, began around noon at some ward centres.
In Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, materials for the congress were dispatched at the party secretariat, Nung Udoe about 10am.
Our correspondent, who observed proceedings of the congress in Ibesikpo ward 3 held at Lutheran Primary School, Nung Udoe, noted that voting was through option A4.
At Primary School Nung Ukana, ward centre of Ibesikpo ward five, Mr. Ubong Jonah, a member of party stated that he was satisfied with the conduct of the exercise.
“The level of participation and transparency was lacking in the party in the past. Before now, people just emerged as ward executives without having the legitimate backing of the people they represent at the grass roots. This process is credible.’’
The PDP leader in Ibesikpo Asutan, Prince Uwem Ita-Etuk, said the congress was free and fair.
At ward centre Ikpa Ibom ward one, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, where Akpan Jimmy Ibanga was declared the ward chairman by the returning officer, the member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency, Mr. Otobong Ndem, said the congress was free and fair.
At Civic Centre, Ikot Ukopo, Itreto ward, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Onofiok Luke, commended the returning officers of the ward for abiding by the stipulated guidelines in the conduct of the exercise.
