The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, says he has yet to be given the report of the investigation into alleged sexual abuses at Internally Displaced Persons camps.
The IG, who said this in an interview with newsmen at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State, added that the police would act promptly as soon as the report was made available.
The IG had, on November 2, set up a Special Investigation Team in Abuja to investigate the alleged sexual abuses in the IDPs camps.
Idris also noted that the Nigeria Police Force would collaborate with other security agencies in the country to tackle crime.
He said, “On the alleged sexual abuses of Internally Displaced Persons in our camps, you know the police set up a committee to investigate that. So far, I have not been briefed. The essence of the committees is based on the report that the Human Rights Watch received about 43 cases of abuses.
“What we told them was to hand over these cases to us. And we should investigate and take the appropriate actions. But I have not yet been briefed by the committee.”
When asked about the police’s preparation for the yuletide, the IG said all security measures had been put in place.
