Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo, FUHSO, Benue, Professor Innocent Ujah has called for scrapping of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System, IPPIS.
Speaking during the third matriculation ceremony of new students of the university, held on Friday at the temporary campus of the institution in Otukpo the VC said that government should totally overhaul the policy or scrapped it in its entirety.
The Vice-Chancellor who lamented that several staff of the institution engaged over a year were yet to receive salary due to poor implementation of IPPiS.
The VC said, “As I make this presentation, am saddened to state that some of our staff who have been employed for over one year, have not been captured on IPPIS and therefore have not been paid a Kobo as salaries even when there is approved budget.
“This, in my experience, is the worse policy of the federal government on staff welfare and I call on the authorities concerned to quickly overhaul the IPPIS to reduce the frustration and agony of our workers in order to encourage and motivate our workers.
“Perhaps it is appropriate to call for the scrapping of the IPPIS policy because it is the worst welfare bequitted to Nigerian workers.
On the matriculation ceremony, Professor Ujah who gave the purpose of matriculation exercise said it was to acquaint fresh students the fundamental principles, norms and culture of the institution.

The VC who addressed the new students said that the university is a world-class specialized institution that will train and produce high-quality healthcare professionals that will contribute to the development of health sector in Nigeria.
While assuring that the University will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for research and teaching, the VC reiterated his stand that the institution has zero tolerance for sale of handouts by lecturers or their surrogates.
He said, “FUHSO is an ICT-driven institution where all teachings are conducted via electronic modules of delivery lectures and tutorials.
The VC encouraged the students to embrace electronic devices, including laptops and tablets, urged the students to shun antisocial activities capable of eliminating them from the institution.
The guest lecturer at the ceremony, Godwin Obla, SAN enjoined the new students to embrace a combination of mindsets, goal-getting, discipline, perseverance, seeking guidance, maintaining work balance and continuous evaluation in order to make their dreams come through in life.
