Twenty-four hours after the resolution reached over the political logjam in Ondo State, the letter expected from ailing Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to officially transmit power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is yet to get to the State House of Assembly.
With the delay in the letter, findings by DAILY POST revealed that the Assembly might invoke the doctrine of necessity to declare Aiyedatiwa as acting governor.
According to a lawmaker, who craved anonymity, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, and other principal officers of the Assembly waited all through Tuesday, but the letter did not arrive.
Recall that President Tinubu had intervened for the second time in the political crisis rocking the state, where it was purportedly agreed that power be transferred to Aiyedatiwa due to the state of health of the governor.
On Tuesday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Richard Olatunde, confirmed in a statement that his boss would transmit a letter to the Assembly to inform the lawmakers of his decision to return to Germany on another medical leave, as well as the transfer of power to Aiyedatiwa.
Meanwhile, sources disclosed that stakeholders present at the meeting pleaded with Tinubu to permit Akeredolu to transmit a letter to the Assembly with the assurance that the governor’s son would ensure the letter got to the Assembly.
However, as of Tuesday night, it was gathered that the Assembly has not received the letter from the governor officially transferring power to his deputy.
