The Osun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria has reported that it arrested 252 suspects and seized over 1,900 kilograms of illicit drugs between January and December 2023. Out of the total number of suspects arrested, 214 were males and 38 were females.
During the same period, 57 accused individuals were convicted, with 47 cases still pending. The agency also discovered and destroyed 9.5 hectares of cannabis farms in Ifedayo and Oriade local government areas, amounting to 23.759 tons of cannabis sativa.
The NDLEA conducted campaigns against drug abuse and provided counselling to 79 individuals while raising awareness in various settings. The Commandant of the Osun State Command refuted claims that the state is the second-highest cannabis-producing state in the southwest, emphasizing the agency’s efforts to combat substance abuse in the region.
