The Benue State Education Quality Assurance Agency (BSEQAA) in Nigeria has instructed school principals in the state to refund excess charges for West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) fees paid by SS3 students.
The Director-General of the agency, Dr Francis Terna, visited several schools in Makurdi, the state capital, and engaged with SS3 students to determine how much they had been charged. He discovered that some schools were charging more than the approved handling fee of N5,000 per student.
Terna ordered the principals to immediately refund any excess charges to the students and warned that failure to comply would result in appropriate sanctions. The state government is committed to maintaining high standards and academic excellence.
Terna also reminded schools that no SS3 students should be admitted during the second term to avoid disrupting the academic calendar. The BSEQAA will continue its random visits to schools to monitor their operations.
These measures aim to ensure fair and affordable education for students in Benue State. The directive from the BSEQAA aligns with the Nigerian government’s efforts to improve education quality and accessibility across the country.
