The Ekiti Council of Traditional Rulers has requested that the Ekiti State Government allocate sufficient resources to empower monarchs to address the issue of insecurity in their communities.
This call came after an emergency meeting of the council, which was attended by the governor and various state security agencies to discuss the recent series of attacks in the state.
The council condemned the killing of two members and the abduction of school children, urging governments at all levels to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face legal consequences.
They also called on the federal government to deploy more security personnel to Ekiti, as the state is currently under-policed. Additionally, the council members have been directed to take measures to flush out bandits and kidnappers from forests and bushes in their communities.
The council also appealed to Ekiti indigenes to support local security arrangements and emphasized the importance of collaboration between regular and native security systems.
In a separate statement, the National Association of University Students, Campus Monitoring Committee (NAUS CMC), Ekiti State chapter, also condemned the abductions and killings in the state.
They called for increased security measures, thorough investigations, and a collaborative effort to bring the perpetrators to justice. The student body expressed their commitment to the safety and protection of pupils and students in their communities.
These statements highlight the urgent need for action to address the escalating insecurity in Ekiti State. The Ekiti Council of Traditional Rulers and the NAUS CMC both emphasize the importance of collaboration between different stakeholders, including the government, security agencies, traditional rulers, and communities, in order to tackle the issue effectively.
The call for increased resources and security personnel reflects the need for additional support to address the current security challenges. These statements also highlight the determination of the local community to stand against criminality and protect their people.
