Week 6 of NFL action is officially in the books, and we’ve begun looking ahead to our first Week 7 matchup. The Jaguars will visit the Saints on Thursday Night Football this week. This is a battle between a 4-2 Jaguars team and a 3-3 Saints team. The Jags appear to be coming into their own and establishing the once presumed identity as legit contenders. They’ve won three straight games now, and will look to keep this momentum going into Thursday.
The Saints, however, are now third in the NFC South after suffering a tough loss to the Texans this past weekend. The Saints desperately need a bounce-back in this spot at home, but can they stop this Jags team?

On Thursday Night Football, we’re in for a fantastic duel between Jacksonville and New Orleans. This feels like an important week for both teams, as a win for the Jaguars keeps them on top of the AFC South, while a loss for New Orleans will have them questioning their positioning in the NFC South. One big question surrounding this game is the injury status of Trevor Lawrence, so we’ll break it down further throughout this article as we make our Thursday Night Football predictions.
First, let’s take a look at the Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence. The biggest headline after the Jags win over the Colts was the injury that QB Lawrence endured late in the fourth quarter on a sack. It appears Lawrence avoided major injury, and Doug Pederson claims that he’ll rest this week and hopefully he isn’t too sore for Thursday. Lawrence has yet to miss a single game in his three NFL seasons, so hopefully that won’t change this week. He’s been phenomenal thus far in 2023, with 1,439 yards and seven touchdown tosses to lead these Jags to one of the better starts to a season they’ve had in a long time.
Travis Eitenne has also been very impressive in this campaign, with 451 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He’s a true game-changer, and a big reason why this offense is flowing. Cristian Kirk has also played a big role at receiver, where he’s picked up 383 yards through the air for a pair of touchdowns. This offense is starting to look like a powerhouse, but they will be tested against the Saints defense in week seven.
Now, for the Saints, this is a team that’s had some ups and downs so far. They’ve certainly had their fair share of good wins, like a 34-0 stomping of the Patriots in Week 5, but that was a Patriots team that’s been destroyed by injuries. None of the Saints’ victories are all that meaningful, as they’ve also defeated the Panthers and Titans. Offensively, Derek Carr has been resectable. He’s thrown for 1,229 yards and five touchdowns, alongside Alvin Kamara who recently returned at RB and made an immediate impact.
Young star receiver Chris Olave has also been a beast for New Orleans, going for 414 receiving yards and a touchdown this year. The Saints will likely have to play well on both sides of the ball and lean on their defense to secure a win here.
Our official Thursday Night Football picks are that the Jaguars keep this thing very close and potentially win on the road here as long as Lawrence is active. The Jags have shown a lot of promise with talent on both sides of the ball, and they’re playing with a swagger New Orleans isn’t matching. With Derek Carr blowing up on his offensive coordinator, we sense some chemistry issues on the Saints’ sideline. We’ll be riding with the Jaguars and taking the points.

As we stated above, our experts are taking the Jacksonville Jaguars +2 (-108 at DraftKings) in this TNF showdown. We think they’re simply the better team all around, and this line feels disrespectful to them for the way they’ve been playing. We also would recommend sprinkling the Jaguars money line (+114) if you’re looking for a bit more value.
