‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.
18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy.Acts 2:17-18
In case we are wondering when is this “last days” that the Bible was talking about? It is simply the period of time between Jesus ascending to heaven and Jesus’ second coming. God says in this last days, He is going to pour out His Spirit on all flesh, without any exemption. The pouring of God’s Spirit can be said to mean “God’s Supply”, what He intend s to give to all flesh in this time and period that we are living in.
To what end did God says He is going to pour out His Spirit upon all flesh? It is so that you can be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man (Ephesians 3:16b). God’s release of His Spirit upon all flesh is to go through the latter days, because the Bible says in the last days, perilous times shall come.
But the challenge is: Many people today have reduced God’s supply to provision of their basic wants only: Like what they will eat and what they will wear. This sometimes become a challenge because some of these things that men crave after and have made their preoccupation, the Bible says God is aware of them. If you read the book of Matthew 6:25-34, it tells us categorically that God knows that we are in need of these things. Verse 25 tells us “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”
There is no way worrying about these things can actually produce them. Worrying does not put food on the table, neither does it put clothes on your body. Why then go about worrying? It says this life is more than food and body more than clothing. And this is where many people lose it. This life of yours, there is a reason why God gave it to you in the first place. Life is not about funfair, but about fulfilling a specific purpose of God. See what Colossians 1:16-17 tells us: “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”
Your life is not a mistake. Although your parents may have conceived you in error or by mistake, but in the agenda of God, you are not a mistake. Purpose is the will of God concerning you, it is why He has made you the way you are. The Psalmist said “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” for His purpose. So, when Jesus said Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”, He was actually talking about the bigger picture about life, which is about fulfilling God’s purpose on the earth.
Verse 26-29 tells us: “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” You see, one of the ways to appreciate the goodness of God towards us is to look at the things that He has made. It says the birds neither sow nor reap, they don’t have food stores; yet, God feeds them. They don’t worry about where there next meal is going to come from.

You see, worrying is a sign that your mind is not on God. Isaiah 26:3 tells us that “God will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, Because he trusts in you.” Worrying is a sign that your trusts or gaze have shifted away from God unto something else, and the reason why many worry is because they doubt that God can actually provide for those their numerous needs. SO, THE ROOT CAUSE OF WORRYING IS LACK OF FAITH IN GOD. See what verse 30 says: “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?” This verse simply buttresses the fact that worrying shows the absence of little or no faith in you.
Let us see what Philippians 4:6-7 says. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” So, why get anxious or worried about these mundane things, when you can actually get yourself filled with the supply of the Spirit of God? You see, you can’t be filled with the Holy Spirit and be filled at the same time with worries. The two cannot go together.
Verse 31-34 of Matthew 6 reads: 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Now, the question in the hearts of believers is this: My heavenly Father knows that I need all these things, how come I still lack them? I have thrown myself into the work of God, I am a firm believer in seeking the Kingdom of God first, why are these things haven’t been added yet? The answer to these questions is simple. It is rooted in the supply of God’s Spirit. Let us read 1 Corinthians 2:9-12. The Bible says:
9 But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”
This tells us that what we need to go through this life is nothing other than the Holy Spirit. When God said He would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh in the last days, it is because His Spirit is all we need to survive. As much as we need food, clothing and shelter; we need much more the supply of the Holy Spirit because a time is coming that food alone won’t be able to sustain you, clothing alone won’t be able to cover you but what the Holy Spirit is going to supply you would be all that you need.
Because a time would come that you will need HELP, not the kind of help you can get from food or clothing, but from the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 16:7 that “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” This kind of help can only comes from the Holy Spirit and nowhere else. A time also would come that you will need HOPE, it would look like all hope is gone, and you desperately in need of hope; the Holy spirit would be there to give you Hope. Romans 5:13 tells us: “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Now, ask yourself this question: What Do I Need? Is it food and clothing or is it the Holy Spirit? I want you to meditate on these words by the help of the Holy Spirit and let Him alone realign you with the plan and purpose of God. What you need to go through life is much more than food and clothing. What then happens after you have eaten the food and you have the clothes to wear? What you need to go through life is the Holy Spirit, ask Him to come fill you up right now.
How To Position Ourselves To The Supply of The Spirit
Haven said all from the beginning, it is important to know how we can position ourselves to the supply of the Spirit. Although God’s promise is that His Spirit would be poured out to all flesh. But there are conditions that must be met, there is a posture or position that we must take if we want to enjoy all that the Holy Spirit supplies.
“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Acts 2:38-39
The gift of the Holy Spirit there is the same as the supply of the Holy Spirit. So, if you are going to partake of all we have been talking about in this message, it is important that you repent. To repent simply means to desist from your old evil ways and to make up your mind to start doing the right thing.
Amen!
