Framing Our World through our Words

In Mark 11:23, the Bible says: “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever (not just the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors or teachers) says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” That means whoever that says something can have whatever he or she says. That shows us how powerful the words we speak can go a long way to frame our world or shape our experiences.

Listen to Podcast: Framing Our World through our Words

One of the wonders of God is the spoken word. God made man and gave him the ability to speak. In Genesis 2:19, the Bible says: “Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.” Everything Adam spoke about the living creatures became their identity till today. We also saw from the beginning as well how God made all things by His word. Genesis 1:1-3 tells us: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said…”

Everything that God wanted to see, He spoke them into existence – light, firmament, waters, grass, herb, living creatures. Even when it was time to make man, God said it first: “Let Us make man in Our image…” Everything that we see today, both visible and invisible, are made by the word of God. Hebrews 11:3 says: “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God (not by evolution), so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”

Apart from the fact that the word of God made everything that we see and the ones we could not see, the word of God is also instrumental in holding everything together. Hebrews 1:3 says: “who being the brightness of His glory (talking about Christ Jesus) and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power…” For example, the earth is over 4.54 billion years old, and the earth is still standing despite all the activities of the devil in it. Why is the earth still standing? The Bible says “God uphold it by the word of His power.”

If you read this place in collaboration with John 1:1-3, it reveals something fundamental to us. The Bible says: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” The Word, in John 1:1-3 talks about the person of Christ, and not the spoken word. That tells us that Christ was with the Father in the beginning when He was making everything. But Hebrews 1:3 shows us that everything is being held together “by the word of His power…” meaning that Christ is pivotal to our continued existence on the earth. When you take Him out of the equation, all these things that we see would all come down like a pack of cards.

The reason we still have the earth still standing is because Christ is in it. What I mean by that is simply this: You and I are still much more around. If believers are taking out of this earth, this earth would be more chaotic than this. And that is why when the rapture takes place and believers are caught-up to be with the Lord in the sky, what would be remaining on earth is nothing short of chaos and calamity.

So, that shows us that the spoken word of God is the reason why everything has not been destroyed.

How to Frame Our World by Our Words

“All he had to do was speak by his Spirit-wind command,
    and God created the heavenlies.
    Filled with galaxies and stars,
the vast cosmos he wonderfully made.
7 His voice scooped out the seas.
The ocean depths he poured into vast reservoirs.
    8 Now, with breathtaking wonder,
let everyone worship Yahweh, this awe-inspiring Creator.
9 Words he breathed and worlds were birthed.
“Let there be,” and there it was—
Springing forth the moment he spoke.
    No sooner said than done!”

    Psalm 33:6-9 (TPT)

The first thing we can see here is that GOD SPOKE! God made man a speaking spirit and nothing short of it. That means you can actually speak as well and frame things the same way God did in the beginning. Putting into perspective the kind of world that you desire begins from the kind of words you speak. The reason is because GOD HONORS YOUR WORD. God honors what we say from our mouth because we are His servants. Isaiah 44:26 says: “Who confirms the word of His servant, and performs the counsel of His messengers; who says to Jerusalem, ‘you shall be inhabited’, to the cities of Judah, ‘you shall be built’, and I will raise up her waste places…”

So, you can actually say something and God would bring it to pass. In 1 Kings 17:1, the Bible says: “And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.” Sometimes we could be tempted to think like: “well, Elijah is a prophet of God and God is under obligation to fulfill his words.” But see what the Scripture says in James 5:17-18. It says: “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.”

4 Kind of Words that Frame Our World

Number one: The Word of Faith

The word of faith is that word that originates from faith. Unfortunately, it is not every word that is borne out of faith. Some words are borne out of fear. Some words are borne out of anxiety. But it is the word that is spoken out of faith that has the capacity to frame our world. In Acts 14:8-10, the Bible says: “And in Lystra a certain man without strength in his feet was sitting, a cripple from his mother’s womb, who had never walked. 9 This man heard Paul speaking. Paul, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed, 10 said with a loud voice, “Stand up straight on your feet!” And he leaped and walked.”

The best time to speak is when faith is staired up in your heart. Paul spoke because he perceived that this man had faith to be healed. Now, the speaking of faith is premised on what you believe. You don’t speak from nothing; you speak from something. In 2 Corinthians 4:13, apostle Paul wrote: “And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak…” So, when you speak the word of faith, the words you speak becomes the raw materials and faith becomes the cement that holds it together.

Number Two: The Word of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is the expression of gratitude to God. It is acknowledging the goodness of God for the things He has done and thanking Him for those that He will still do. Apostle Paul says in whatever state that one is, it is good to give thanks to God for it His will for us in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says: “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” The Bible said concerning Abraham that he did not waver and was strong in faith giving glory to God. Romans 4:20-21 says: “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” Abraham was giving praise to God despite his circumstances. The first thing we saw with Abraham was that HE DID NOT WAVER AT THE PROMISE OF GOD THROUGH UNBELIEF.

The starting point is knowing the personality of the person who has made a promise to you. If I issue a cheque of N2billion naira to Mr. Francis and I say “go to my bank and cash that money for yourself”, the chances of him doubting me would be extremely highly because he knew I may not be worth N2billion naira currently. But if Dangote issues the same cheque to him and says “go cash the money”, I believe he will not doubt him because everyone knows who Dangote is. Now, here the, the Bible says Abraham did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief because he knew so well that God would never disappoint. He knew God would never jeopardize his integrity. Let me show us two Scriptures about the integrity of God.

    Numbers 23:19 says:

“God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”

    Hebrews 6:13-18 says:

“For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16 For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. 17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, 18 that by two immutable things (HIS PERSON and HIS WORD), in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.”

The second thing we saw from the case of Abraham is that the Bible says WAS STRENGTHENED IN FAITH, GIVING GLORY TO GOD. So, that means Abraham became strengthened in faith by giving glory God, in other words, giving praise to God. That means the more Abraham praised God, the more he moved closer to His change. And this must be our attitude going forward into 2021. We must be grateful enough to see our desired change. So, thanksgiving is a pivotal means of framing our world.

    “But I am poor and sorrowful;
Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.
30 I will praise the name of God with a song,
And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bull,
    Which has horns and hooves.
    32 The humble shall see this and be glad;
And you who seek God, your hearts shall live.
33 For the Lord hears the poor,
And does not despise His prisoners.

34 Let heaven and earth praise Him,
The seas and everything that moves in them.
35 For God will save Zion
And build the cities of Judah,
That they may dwell there and possess it.
36 Also, the descendants of His servants shall inherit it,
And those who love His name shall dwell in it.”

    Psalm 69:29-36

Number Three: The Word of Truth

Jesus is the TRUTH and His words are life giving, life transforming and His words have the capacity to change our experiences forever. John 1:1-4, and John 6:63 shows us. It says: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” And in John 6:63, the Bible says: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” If you therefore want your world framed according to God’s design, then you must begin to take the words of Jesus seriously.

Number Four: The Word of Grace

“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

    Acts 20:32

I believe you have learnt something!
