In a fierce gun battle between Taraba State Police and suspected bandits on Tuesday, the Assistant Superintendent of Police Aminu Nuhu lost his life alongside three bandits on the hills of Yorro and Mararaba Kunini in Yorro and Lau Local Government Areas.
The clash occurred during an Anti-Kidnap operation led by the State Command’s team to rescue 23 individuals kidnapped earlier in the day.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Usman Abdullahi confirmed the incident, revealing that the operation targeted a kidnappers’ den where a monarch, two police officers, and 20 others had been abducted in the Pupule community
Abdullahi stated, “During the encounter, we lost one of our officers, an assistant superintendent of police, and three bandits were killed. Four others were also arrested while some managed to escape.”
An anonymous officer involved in the operation recounted, “On sighting the policemen, the bandits opened fire, and the policemen replied ‘fire-for-fire.’
He said after a 30-minute encounter, three bandits were shot dead and others escaped with gunshot injuries.
The source who lamented that “our dedicated officer, Aminu Nuhu, lost his life during the gun duel.” said the arrested bandits were found in possession of assorted criminal charms.
Expressing grief over the officer’s death, State Governor, Agbu Kefas said through his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, “His death will not be in vain.”
The Governor vowed to bring the escaped gang members to justice, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to addressing security challenges in the state.
