SNP canvasses use of OMRs for future elections
Ondo State Mandate Group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of working against the party in presidential election last week.
Spokesperson for the group, Olugbenga Bojuwomi, who stormed the APC national secretariat in Abuja with a band of protesters yesterday, expressed sadness over the loss of the state to opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In the results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) PDP’s candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, garnered 275,901 votes in the state to defeat APC’s President Muhammadu Buhari who polled 241,769.
It called for the immediate dissolution of Ondo APC executive council on the basis that the members have become Akeredolu’s puppets.
The group further called on the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) to punish Akeredolu for his “unholy alliance” with the PDP.
Meanwhile, the national chairman, Sustainable National Party (SNP), Kayode Arimoro, has called for optical mark readers (OMRs) in lieu of the smart card readers (SCRs) adopted for the 2015 and 2019 general elections.
Reacting to the outcome of last Saturday’s election, Arimoro decried that the SCRs were overrated in terms of efficiency and transparency.
According to him, Nigeria should focus on a process that explores the concept of optical mark reading, which will reject multiple entries of any thump print, in future elections.
