Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opposed claims by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) that Nigeria does not have enough network coverage to guarantee the electronic transmission of election results in 2023. Besides, the electoral body revealed that the NCC was aware since 2018 that the commission has the capacity and capability to transmit results electronically. A day before the Tokyo Olympics officially open, organisers have reported 12 coronavirus cases linked to the Games. The organising committee said in their Thursday update that two athletes staying in the Olympic Village were among those who tested positive. Neither are however Japanese. Organisers said two more people from the Olympic Village are affected, but they are not athletes. All four must now go into quarantine. South Africa’s jailed ex-president Jacob Zuma was granted compassionate leave from prison on Thursday so he can attend his brother’s funeral, the government said.
