As the ultimatum given by the Ondo State Government for unregistered herdsmen to quit the forest reserves in the state expired Sunday, the national leadership of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), would meet with the South West governors Monday. The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Donald Ojogo, who confirmed the development, said that the meeting would hold in Akure, Ondo State capital. Ojogo said though the ultimatum had expired, there would be no further comment until after the meeting. Also speaking, an aide to one of the South West governors, who did not want to be…

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer set a new Bundesliga record with the 197th clean sheet of his career in the German top flight as the league leaders thrashed Schalke on Sunday. The 34-year-old, voted FIFA’s best goalkeeper of 2020, bettered the previous record set by former Bayern and Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. Kahn needed 557 Bundesliga matches, for Bayern and Karlsruher, to reach the old mark, which current Germany ‘keeper Neuer has usurped after 423 league games for the Bavarians and former club Schalke. On Sunday, Neuer pulled off saves to deny Mark Uth and Suat Serdar in Gelsenkirchen. Neuer…

Bruno Fernandes’s stunning free-kick inflicted more misery on Liverpool as Manchester United progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a thrilling 3-2 win at Old Trafford on Sunday. Both sides struggled to create chances in a cagey 0-0 draw when they met in the Premier League last weekend. But there was no repeat of that caution in a wide-open contest that ended Liverpool’s hopes of a first domestic cup win under Jurgen Klopp for another season. The English champions lost a league game at Anfield for the first time in nearly four years to Burnley on Thursday…

BY SIMON KOLAWOLE Recent events in south-western Nigeria, as I would offer to think, are not ordinary. First, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (also called Sunday Igboho), a private citizen described as “youth leader”, stormed the Fulani community in Igangan, Oyo state, and gave them seven days to vacate the land, failing which he would expel them. The “grassroots mobiliser” confronted the Seriki Fulani, Alhaji Saliu Kadri, accusing his kinsmen of killing Yoruba people. After issuing his ultimatum, Igboho said: “It’s not like I just commanded the Fulani to leave our land or that I suddenly said something arbitrarily. For like two…

Last week’s disagreement between the federal government and the Ondo State government over the latter’s quit notice to some criminal herdsmen squatting in the forest and decimating the ecosystem has further reaffirmed government’s notorious but inane disposition to issues especially, when certain ethnic nationalities are involved. Sadly, the Muhammadu Buhari administration often forgets that the relationship between the central government and the federating units is not subservient but is quick to handing down orders as though a principal is reading riot act to its students over whom he has absolute control. With increasing insecurity, which has exposed the helplessness of…

“If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete”- Jack Kornfield Living the best life is not about what you have achieved, but about how you have made yourself happy. And being happy is one’s responsibility, which comes from loving yourself unconditionally. Self-love is not negative or unhealthy. Instead, it is necessary to be able to give and receive love from other people. If you don’t love yourself, who will? Self-love is having high regard and appreciation for one’s wellbeing and happiness. Putting yourself first before others is not settling for less than you deserve. Self-love is about accepting…

Nigeria is afflicted with perennial ‘leadership haemorrhage’. Many Nigerians believe that the nation’s leadership crisis was aggregated by successive deficiency in leadership vision and in some cases made worse by public official’s understanding and interpretation of problems with clarity but lacking in political will to see or implement solutions. A recently articulated commentary in this direction entitled; My Movement to Actualize Nigeria, by Tobechi Innocent Okwuonu, a Nigerian based in Canada, probably did more than anything else to convince Nigerians that leadership challenge in the country significantly has nothing to do with cluelessness. But largely depends on the understanding that their…

Eden Hazard scored one goal and set up another as Real Madrid thrashed Alaves 4-1 on Saturday to ease the pressure on their coach Zinedine Zidane, who was absent after testing positive for Covid-19. Zidane’s position has come under scrutiny again after Wednesday’s defeat by third-tier side Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey but Madrid responded at Mendizorroza without their coach, or their captain Sergio Ramos, who was out with a knee injury. Goals from Casemiro, Karim Benzema and Hazard put Madrid three up at half-time and while Alaves briefly threatened a fightback when Joselu headed in, Benzema added a…

• Nwodo, Adebanjo, Jega Outline Benefits, Modalities For about his first time of mounting the rostrum to speak on the contentious issue after leaving office, immediate past President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has challenged the National Assembly to bow to the wishes of Nigerians as it undertakes another review of the 1999 constitution. When he was in office as President, the issue of whether the amended constitution should receive the final blessing of the executive by way of assent, pitted him and the 7th National Assembly led by Senator David Bonaventure Mark. But, speaking during the 18th Daily Trust Dialogue Forum held…
