In a major scandal uncovered by Daily Mail, it has been alleged that UEFA altered the formation of their Team of the Year at the last moment to accommodate Cristiano Ronaldo, who finished fourth in the voting for forwards behind Lionel Messi, Sadio Mane, and Robert Lewandowski. Originally, the team was supposed to feature N’Golo Kante in a 3-man midfield behind…

By ALEX OTTI “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it” – George Santayana, Spanish Philosopher, 1863 – 1952 Emmanuel was my father’s younger brother. He was tall, lanky and handsome with a lot of courage. My father used to say that if he was able to acquire education, he would have ended up a lawyer. This was because he was very argumentative. It was part of this nature that made him not to survive the Nigerian civil war. It was sometime in 1968. I was very young, but I could still understand and remember…

Governors of the six states in the South-west that promoted Amotekun, a regional security network to complement the federal government’s efforts in battling crime in the geopolitical zone, are soon to meet to decide how to respond to yesterday’s declaration of the security outfit as unconstitutional, THISDAY has gathered. Obadiah Mailafia In 2019, the global economy witnessed a significant downturn; growing by an average of 3.3 per cent during the year, down from 3.7 per cent in 2018. Average Brent crude prices fell from an average of US$71.0 per barrel in 2018 to US64.0 per barrel in 2019. The fall in oil prices reflects not only slow growth in the global economy and demand but also more aggressive production of shale by the United States. American shale production rose from 36.4 million barrels in July 2010 to 5.6 million barrels in January 2019.  Europe accounts for 46 per…

Tunde Odesola It’s one of the most amazing creatures in nature, though fear, cunning and deathliness rule its world. The weak don’t call its name in vain, especially at night. It runs, swims and even jumps when extremely necessary. The exquisite embroidery on its skin is the product of painstaking hypertech symmetry. Its oblong head, glassed eyes, obscure nose, pronged-teeth, thready tongue, tapering body and a brief tail bespeak the physical architecture of the ultimate, solitary killer. It’s the snake. The snake, like Nigeria’s political class, evokes fear, hate and the capacity to do the unbelievable. How the small…
