Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson thinks there will be no lasting repercussions to Sadio Mane’s furious outburst against Burnley on Saturday. Mane seemed to be livid with team-mate Mohamed Salah after being substituted at Turf Moor, where the Reds claimed a 3-0 victory. The Senegal forward was apparently angry at Salah for taking a shot moments earlier rather than setting up his team-mate for a simple finish. Manager Jurgen Klopp said Mane was “completely fine” after the match and Henderson also saw little to be concerned about. “I’ve seen it now and again. Sadio is fine, he’s a great lad. That’s…

A few days after the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) charged 80 persons, most of whom are Nigerians, over a range of fraudulent activities, President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday in Yokohama, Japan warned Nigerians in Diaspora that the federal government would not condone any crime from anywhere. Speaking while addressing the Nigerian community in Japan at the Royal Park Hotel on the sidelines of the seventh Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD), the president threatened that Nigeria would not allow bad eggs among Nigerians resident abroad to continue to portray the country in bad light. “We will not…
Manchester United will be without left-back Luke Shaw and forward Anthony Martial for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Southampton. Both players suffered injuries in last weekend’s surprise 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace and have been ruled out of the trip to St Mary’s Stadium. Shaw was replaced by Ashley Young after injuring his hamstring in the first half and in-form attacker Martial, despite completing the full 90 minutes, hurt his thigh and had to limp through the closing stages. United also confirmed on their official website on Thursday that Diogo Dalot will sit out on this weekend’s match, while Eric…
Unai Emery has hinted more players will leave Arsenal before the European transfer window closes but has ruled out an exit for Mesut Ozil. Ozil has battled injury and inconsistency since Emery took over from Arsene Wenger last year, starting just 20 of Arsenal’s 38 Premier League matches in 2018-19. The midfielder has yet to feature this season since being involved in an apparent attempted carjacking last month along with team-mate Sead Kolasinac. He was absent for last weekend’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool, despite returning to training, but Emery has opened the door for his comeback against Tottenham on Sunday. South Korea’s top court on Thursday set aside former president Park Geun-hye’s convictions in the sprawling scandal that saw her ousted from power and ordered the case to be heard again. Park was convicted in April last year on bribery and abuse of power charges and sentenced to 24 years, later extended for an additional 12 months. But the Supreme Court ruled that separate verdicts should have been reached on the bribery counts. “We send the case back to the Seoul High Court,” said chief justice Kim Myeong-su. Park’s first trial lasted 10 months and highlighted shady links between big…
Defending US Open champion Novak Djokovic complained of feeling “quite rough and unpredictable” as a nagging shoulder problem hampered him during Wednesday’s second-round win over Juan Ignacio Londero. The world number one received medical treatment to his left shoulder throughout the match on his way to a 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 6-1 win and said he feared the injury could have forced him to retire. “It was not easy to play with this kind of sensation, to be honest. I did not experience that too many times in my career,” Djokovic said. “I had obviously, you saw, a medical timeout. At…
By Olusegun Adeniyi In 2003 or thereabouts, while still living in Lagos, I was invited to the Bournvita Award for Teachers ceremony to read the awardees citation along with Mrs. Adesuwa Onyenikwe of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) fame. Veteran actor, Mr Olu Jacob, was also there, as he said, to give moral support to his wife, the effervescent Joke Silva, who compered the event. In the course of our conversation about the loss of value in our society, Jacob remarked that in Nigeria today, when a neighbour with no visible means of livelihood suddenly becomes a billionaire, questions…
IG urges anti-graft agencies to key into INTERPOL’s crime database The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is collating a comprehensive data on Nigerians indicted on money laundering and cybercrime offences in the United States by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The data collation by the EFCC came just as the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, yesterday urged the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other law enforcement agencies to key into the crime database of the International Police (INTERPOL) in order to enhance their crime management capabilities. Also yesterday, the…
By Matthew Ozah It is often said of youth across the world that they are the future leaders of a nation. In Nigeria, political leaders make bold to ascribe same to its youth, but sadly only as a lip service. Nigeria’s political elite in their imagination believe that the nation’s youth are not well nurtured to handle leadership position. Yet, they are not ready to nurture or teach the youth the rudiments of good governance and leadership skills. Perhaps, because they lack such qualities as good leadership model and accountability hence, politicians in this part of the clime continue to use…
