The 2018-19 football season is into its 4th month, and we have already seen some ups and downs. Big clubs like Juventus, Barcelona, and Liverpool are leading the Serie A, LaLiga, and EPL tables respectively. On the other hand, Bayern Munich has recovered somewhat after a poor start to their season, but traditional powerhouses, Manchester United and Real Madrid, have been really suffering. Clubs like Borussia Dortmund, PSG, and Arsenal have been pretty impressive this season, and would definitely be hopeful of winning silverware. Both PSG and Arsenal have employed new managers this season, and have performed exceptionally well under…

José Mourinho, as we know from past experiences, is usually on point with the signings he makes. However, at Manchester United, the vintage Mourinho has somewhat succumbed to the pressure of the job. Be it his policy of ‘experience over youth’ or be it his overall style of play, José Mourinho seems to have had to adjust according to the demands of fans and board alike. José Mourinho even lost his second season syndrome at the club. Mourinho has always been in the headlines ever since joining United. Be it his tendencies of not associating himself with the club or be…

For a long time now, Arsenal have been the type of team that show huge promise, but never deliver. They gave up their hopes of winning a title years ago, and now just try to aim for the top four every season. However, is this enough? Should Arsenal be aiming higher? The majority will say that they should show more ambition, but what many overlook is the fact that the squad is filled to the brim with deadwood; players that are either no good, or provide little value to the team as a whole. There’s no denying that the Gunners are a…

Arsenal have made a sound start to the post-Arsene Wenger era. The Frenchman’s replacement, Unai Emery has gotten the Gunners dancing to his tunes. With Arsenal producing an exciting high-octane attacking style of football, there is a growing consensus that the appointment of Emery was the right one. Currently, the Gunners find themselves on the right side of a 21 match unbeaten run. During that phase, they drew against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United while they blitzed past Tottenham in the North London Derby. Moreover, their summer signings have had an instant impact. Torreira, Leno and Sokratis have…

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo yesterday, told Nigerian-German investors that Nigeria is now a food basket of the world with huge investment potentials. Osinbajo made the assertion during a dialogue in Berlin, Germany, adding that the country is also the best destination for serious-minded investors. Backing his claims with statistical facts, the Nigerian Vice President said: “Consumer spending in Africa was $1.4 trillion by 2015, with Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa accounting for more than half of that total. “There is also increasing economic opportunities in Nigeria because of deliberate actions by our government to diversify the economy and improve the…

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says Uzbekistan’s success in becoming recognised as a malaria-free country is an “extraordinary outcome”. Executive Director of the Global Fund, a UN-backed partnership to end malaria epidemics, Peter Sands, on Tuesday said malaria had a long and deadly history in Uzbekistan. Sands noted that in the late nineteenth century, the disease killed nearly 40,000 people in the capital district alone, and in 1943, one tenth of the population was infected. In the post-war years, the Uzbek Government concentrated on eliminating malaria, but the country was hit by a devastating resurgence in the early 1960s, according to…

Two years after the Super Falcons defeated their Senegalese counterparts 2-0 to qualify for the 2016 edition of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon, their winning bonuses is said to be ‘hanging’ in the secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The situation is said to be giving sports minister, Solomon Dalung a great concern, particularly after the sports ministry had allegedly made the money available to the NFF to be paid to the players and their coaches. The Super Falcons qualified for the 10th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations by beating Senegal 2-0 in a return fixture…

The holidays bring a lot of perks — time off work, snow days, cheesy Hallmark movies and spending time with family members who you may not get to see much throughout the year. The last one can be a bit of a double-edged sword, however. Although you love your relatives, there’s something about a large gathering ― combined with being back in a house where you were once a different person ― that can make you more stressed than normal. Constant questions about your personal life and your job or comments about your eating habits or body may pop up. You…

Chances are, toxic people in your life ruined a day or two ― or shoot, all 365 of them ― this year. There’s clearly something in the water; just last month, the Oxford Dictionary proclaimed “toxic” the word of the year for 2018, so you’re definitely not alone in your experiences. “For most of us, toxic people and bad relationships can become like an addiction — a difficult habit to break, because you are emotionally attached, and the attached part of you wants to keep trying,” said Tina Tessina, psychotherapist and co-author of How to Be a Couple and Still Be Free. “The rational part of your…
