With the Premier League well underway, a number of things have emerged which are worth discussing. First, Manchester City have proved both their class and consistency by retaining their place at the top of the table by attaining 32 points after just 12 matches. Along with both Chelsea and Liverpool, Man City are yet to lose a game this season. Local rivals Manchester United, however, sit 12 points below City in the eighth position and may be looking to boost their hopes of recovery by improving their squad in the January transfer window. United’s defence, in particular, has been leaky, to say the least –…
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is determined to win a place in Maurizio Sarri’s starting line-up despite finding himself behind Alvaro Morata in the Stamford Bridge pecking order. Giroud was an unused substitute as the Blues were held to a goalless draw by Everton in their last Premier League fixture, despite having scored in their 1-0 Europa League win at BATE in the previous game. The World Cup-winning forward played 65 minutes of France’s 2-0 Nations League defeat to the Netherlands before being replaced by Ousmane Dembele, but he claimed a domestic transfer to ensure his international future was not on…
Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri said an exchange with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp helped him realise that he has “reached the top” by swapping Serie A for the Premier League. Sarri has made an unbeaten start to life in the Premier League after 12 games in charge of Chelsea, setting a new record, and he waxed lyrical about his experience of English football since leaving Napoli. Chelsea were involved in a pair of gripping matches against Liverpool in September and Sarri shed light on a conversation with opposite number Klopp on the touchline. The 59-year-old described the moment in an…
The World Health Organisation on Monday said global efforts to fight malaria have hit a plateau as it reported there were more cases of the killer disease in 2017 than the previous year. The latest WHO report showed that the number of malaria cases climbed to 219 million last year, two million higher than 2016, while international funding has declined. “The world faces a new reality,” WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned as the UN agency launched the new report. “As progress stagnates, we are at risk of squandering years of toil, investment and success in reducing the number of…
By: Daniel Ighakpe Shelter is one of the basic needs of man, and the idea of affordable housing to cater to this need is both practical and viable. According to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN–Habitat), 30 per cent of the world’s urban population resides in slums, with deplorable conditions, where people suffer from several deficiencies, including lack of access to improved water, absence of sewage facilities, living in overcrowded conditions, and in buildings that are structurally unsound. There are conflicting figures about Nigeria’s housing deficit, but experts often quote between 17 and 21 million. Affordable housing refers to housing that addresses the…

Hello and welcome to the Premier League transfer roundup for the day! Here are the biggest stories from the Premier League rumour mill! #5 Sarri should sign strikers but keep faith in Morata It is quite funny that the sentence above might sound contradicting to many but the fact of the matter is that it is not really as mutually exclusive as it might appear. Chelsea can have more strikers and Sarri can still keep faith in Alvaro Morata – at least that is what Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink seems to believe. The former Chelsea star is of the opinion…
Real Madrid are one of the grandest clubs in World Football, and they currently sit at 6th in the league table, struggling for goals and results this year after the departure of their leading goalscorer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and club legend, three-peat winning manager Zinedine Zidane. The problems are really piling on for Los Blancos, and they look way off from being the club that lifted the Champions League 4 times in the last 5 years. Real Madrid is the only club in the history of football to win 2 and 3 Champions Leagues in a row. They brought in former…
