Tunde Odesola Darkness blacked out my world on Saturday, September 28, 2019 when Florence Moriyike Odesola-Adewusi, my younger sister, departed this earthly realm. Grief didn’t rain on me, it poured. Five days after Florence was snatched by cancer, the elder sister that I never had, Mrs Adefunmilayo Itunuade Abegunde, also succumbed to the nasty grip of indomitable cancer, accompanying Florence into eternity. The loss of my blood sister smashed me beyond smithereens. That of my adopted elder sister filled me with total contempt for life. In my period of absolute grief, truckloads of condolences poured in, trying to sooth and…

A pillar is a structural member of a building that carries its weight. Most buildings are usually made up of one form of pillar or the other. The weights of the building are usually carried by the pillars so that little or no stress is transferred to the foundation of the building. The 6 Pillars of Christianity however talks about some basic teachings upon which Christianity stands. For any believer to grow in God and in the things of the kingdom, these teachings or pillars are very fundamental, and we are going to be examining them in this teaching. …

Let me begin by reading out this quote to us from the last edition of Leaderview by Brother Gboyega Adedeji. The quote says “the best way you as a person can predict the man or the woman you would become is by making certain choices today that will determine an expected or a desirable outcome in the future.” As we grow in life, there are certain times we would have to make certain choices, and our decisions to stick with a particular choice would either make or mar us. This is why it is of great necessity and importance…

“For the queen’s behavior will become known to all women, so that they will despise their husbands in their eyes, when they report, ‘King Ahasuerus commanded Queen Vashti to be brought in before him, but she did not come.’ 22 Then he sent letters to all the king’s provinces, to each province in its own script, and to every people in their own language, that each man should be master in his own house, and speak in the language of his own people.” Esther 1:17, 22 Our opening text shows us how queen Vashti disobeyed her husband, the king…

The Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON) has kicked against the proposed plan of the Federal Government to increase Value Added Tax from five per cent to 7.2 per cent. The association through its National President, Dr. Femi Egbesola, explained that an increase in tax consequently increases the inflation rate. While big businesses could take advantage of such increment to increase the prices of goods and services, Egbesola said the increase would also shrink the purchasing power of the already impoverished Nigerian income earner further. Egbesola stated this at a press briefing in Lagos to represent the many…

In 2019, is Nigeria moving forward or backward? This is the question I ask myself each time I have the time to analyze  what is going on in Nigeria. Recent events, and where we are presently as a nation, does not show so much that we are on the path of growth. The way and manner our leaders go about managing this nation’s destiny does not give many Nigerians any opportunity to hope for a better future. Many simply stay there, praying and hoping that one day, something miraculous might just happen that would better their lots in a country…

Many Nigerians may not have met Bishop Oyedepo at a close range, yet, he is still reverred by many and loved by many across the continent. Almost on every point he has been criticized. Is it for his involvement in Nigerian politics, or as being one of the richest pentecostal preachers in the world, or on the ground that he runs one of the most expensive private universities in Nigeria; one in which critics claims poor members of his congregation cannot afford to enrol their children in. Yet, these criticisms never seems to remove a single strand of hair from…

At no time Has God left man in the dark to figure out how He can be pleased. He said to Adam, don’t partake of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He also gave the children of Israel laws to follow. In the New Testament, Jesus said “if you want to come to the Father, come through me.” And when Jesus was about to leave the scene, He gave us the Holy Spirit. These examples are to show us that God has never at any point in time left man in the dark on the acceptable way to…

In Matthew 11:29, Jesus said: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.” This statement makes Jesus our perfect model and example in life. It is good in life to have role models, but Jesus is the real model. Role models are humans and they are not without shortcomings. But Jesus is the only man who never failed, while He was mortal. The Bible even said that He was tempted in every ways and yet, no single sin was found in Him. There is a saying that goes like this:…

The greatest challenge many believers face today is on how they can exercise their faith. The problem is not whether such believers don’t have faith because the Bible makes it clear that there is a measure of faith available to every believer. Romans 12:3 tells us “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” The problem therefore is not the lack of faith but rather, how to exercise that faith to…
