A controversial Nigerian senator, Dino Melaye, has denied offering bribe to a judge, Akon Ikpeme, who handled the petition brought against the lawmaker’s election in 2015. An online media, Sahara Reporters, had published an audio which appeared to contain exchanges between the lawmaker and the judge as they discussed the bribe money. In the leaked clip, a male voice believed to be Mr. Melaye’s, could be heard assuring a female speaker, alleged to be the judge, of his readiness to pay some money, which the female speaker emphasised should be “in USD (United States dollars)”. “(It’s a) blatant falsehood,” Mr.…

It is sad that many Nigerians today talk glibly about the possibility of a coup or of military intervention in politics. They make it seem as if this democracy is something we can exchange for something else. We need to be reminded, as we celebrate democracy day 2017, how we got to this very moment, and how precious democracy is to us as a sovereign people. From 1966 to 1999 (with the short break of civilian rule from 1979 – 1983) the military dominated the political landscape in Nigeria. It was eighteen years ago yesterday when our country returned to…
Delivering a message is as important as the person delivering it. Yesterday’s democracy speech delivered by the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo would not have inspired hope the way it does, assuming it was read by President Muhammadu Buhari. To some extent, i got renewed by it, i dont know about you. President Buhari led administration came on board exactly two years ago. Whether people like it or not, and irrespective of the great statistics of achievements coming from some APC stalwarts as the successes of this administration in the last two years, the truth is that Nigerians are not…
Fellow Nigerians, let’s call a spade a spade, and not by any other name today. I’m seriously perturbed that while our dear President is indisposed, for now, some of his so-called friends are only interested in consolidating themselves in power. I think President Muhammadu Buhari deserves better than this. Hate him or love him, President Buhari remains one of the most honest Nigerians alive today. Not even his worst enemy would accuse him of being a corrupt leader. As a prominent Nigerian businessman once told us: “I can’t imagine anyone discussing deals with President Buhari… The atmosphere would not be…
The Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has once again displayed with class what it truly means to be a leader. Traders at the popular Garki Market in the FCT, Abuja were so much delighted to see Prof. Osinbajo, who alongside with his entourage decided to have a feel of what ordinary Nigerians go through to purchase basic food items in this current economic crisis bedvelling the nation. This singular act once again brings to the fore what true leadership really means. The usual practise had been that when politicians assumes their office, after much campaigning and soliciting for votes from…

There is a price to be paid for greatness in life. Success does not just happen out of the blues, it is sometimes a result of going through a careful, and well thought-out set of behaviors, and putting in place in one’s life a system of discipline that guides one’s actions. No man truly becomes successful without going through a process. Everyone wants to be successful. That is fine! There is a saying that success has many friends, but no one wants to be identified with failure. You can hardly ask anyone if they want to succeed in whatever they…
