I have been musing to write on this for a while until a recent post by Subomi Plumptre of Alder Consulting gave me the spur to put pen to paper. Her piece broke my inertia and gave me the resolve to write about this. Fifty percent or more of graduates in Nigeria who go for advanced degrees choose to do so because they couldn’t find good jobs. On completing NYSC, for many graduates in Nigeria, the next item of the agenda is getting a job. Even if the plan is to have their own business at some point, for many…

A four day-old baby belonging to a Nigerian lady, Mariam Ohene, was among over 480 migrants rescued by humanitarian ships on Saturday in the central Mediterranean Sea. Also rescued with Mariam Ohene were her two year-old son named Benjamin and her Ghanaian husband, Richard. They were all travelling on one of two rubber boats carrying over 200 migrants from North and Central Africa, Sri Lanka and Yemen and seen drifting some 22 nautical miles north of the Libyan town of Sabratha, the most frequently used departure point currently used by people smugglers in Libya. The 29 year-old Nigerian woman had lived with…
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a remarkable political composite with so many dimensions such that it is difficult to paint an adequate portrait of all that he is and all he has accomplished. Authors and commentators have said and written much about this inimitable man, dwelling on his life as an activist, intellectual, administrator, politician, strategist, democracy icon, humanist, family man and more. But I want to attend to just two of the numerous qualities of Asiwaju Tinubu, as a meticulous strategist and a compassionate man. I select these two because this combination rarely enjoys residence in one man. Usually,…

The CBN Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor in a statement, said that…
The Speaker House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, on Tuesday gave Friday deadline to committees yet to submit report of 2017 budget to the Committee on Appropriation to do so. He said that any committee that failed to meet the deadline will face the consequences. According to him, the affected Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of committees should endeavour to submit their reports latest March 30 to enable the Appropriation Committee hasten the process of passing the…
Fellow Nigerians, let me take you on historical excursions today. At this unfortunate time that History is not a compulsory subject in our school curriculum, it is pertinent to educate ourselves properly about our dear beloved nation. For those who may not know, Ile-Ife is the ancestral home of all Yoruba people. Please, ignore attempts by all manner of historians attempting to rewrite history. Ile-Ife occupies an eminent space on the world map today, and as far back as I can remember, as being the cradle of Yoruba civilisation, at the very least. That is why you will find that…
This is for some of you, who feel like giving up; let me share my story so that you can learn from it….. Growing up as a ‘middle child’ (an elder sibling, and a younger sibling) wasn’t so great. I know a lot of people can relate with this, but you have to be me to understand my own special case. I was different from my siblings, and they never made me forget that fact, every moment of every day. I always and easily had misunderstandings with my sister, so, there was always that opportunity to remind me that I’m…

Adeboye, while addressing over 50,000 faithful during a conference organised by the RCCG, First Born Family at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, said Nigerians should not be discouraged because of the economic and other challenges the country is facing currrently. The cleric said God’s purpose and intention for the development of the country is still intact and would soon come to pass “if we continue in prayers and remain committed to Him.” The…
