The Coalition of Civil Society Groups has urged the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Kayode Egbetokun, to release the police investigation report into the alleged murder of Victor Obafaite and Jimoh Asimi.
NAN reports that Obafaite and Asimi lost their lives in the aftermath of the 2007 House of Representatives election in Kabba/Bunu LGA.
Mr Wisdom Chinedu, the convener, in a statement in Abuja on Monday, urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to take action.
Chinedu called on the IG-P to order the relevant authorities involved in the case to make their investigation reports public.
He emphasised the need to unravel the circumstances surrounding the duo’s deaths and expressed doubts about the previous committee’s trustworthiness.
Chinedu stressed the importance of justice, stating that the alleged mastermind of the attack should be promptly arrested and prosecuted for murder.
Chinedu demanded that all individuals directly or indirectly responsible for the 2007 mayhem face legal consequences.
He pointed out that witnesses who could testify against the perpetrators are still available.
Chinedu underscored the urgency of these actions, citing violent threats in the ongoing governorship election campaign, with allegations of known cultists being engaged to disrupt the election.
He stressed the importance of upholding the democratic gains made since 1999.
