Last Saturday, the ward congresses for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were held in Edo State, and among the elected National Delegates were Chief Odion Olaye, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo State, and Benin Chief Osaro Idah. Olaye and Idah were elected by ward delegates in Oredo and Egor local government areas, respectively.
In addition to them, former senators Francis Alimikhena and Yisa Braimah, who previously represented the Edo North Senatorial District, were also elected as National Delegates.
These ward and national delegates congresses were conducted in preparation for the PDP’s governorship primary, which is scheduled to take place on February 22, 2024. The congress was held in 17 out of the 18 local government areas in the state. Unfortunately, the ward congress election in Etsako Central Local Government Area had to be canceled due to the reported abduction of nine electoral officers.
In a statement issued by Tony Anenih (Jnr), the State Organizing Secretary, party members were informed about the National Delegates Election that would be taking place in all other local government areas in the state, excluding Etsako Central.
The congresses were conducted by officials from the PDP’s National Headquarters in Abuja, ensuring that the process was transparent and adhered to the party’s guidelines.
