A suspected member of the youth gang known as Shila Boys in Adamawa State, Nigeria, was killed during a clash with vigilantes.
The gang members armed themselves with knives, sticks, and cutlasses and attacked the Demsawo Government Day Secondary School, assaulting teachers and damaging school facilities.
This attack was in retaliation for the arrest of one of their members by the vigilantes guarding the school.
The police confirmed that one of the suspected gang members, Muhammadu Musa, who allegedly masterminded the clash, has been arrested.
The vigilante, Nasiru Abdullahi, who used a weapon to kill the gang member named Uba, has also been detained.
Reports state that Musa and four other gang members had previously infiltrated the school by posing as students.
When their intentions were discovered, they were apprehended by the vigilantes and taken to the principal’s office.
During the interrogation, Musa attempted to escape by pulling out a knife, but he was subdued by the vigilantes. The four other gang members later mobilized more boys to invade the school again and attack the vigilantes and teachers.
During this second attack, Nasiru Abdullahi was slashed by one of the gang members but managed to defend himself using the knife he had taken from Musa, stabbing Uba to death.
