Nigeria’s telecommunications company, Globacom Ltd, has denied reports that it owes rival company MTN N1.6 billion in interconnect charges.
A reliable source within Globacom informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the payment had already been made without any controversy. The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) posted a public notice on its Twitter page on January 8th, stating that Glo had failed to settle its outstanding debts despite multiple attempts at resolution.
However, the Glo official argued that a proper cross-check of the facts should have been conducted before concluding that the company was indebted to MTN.
Furthermore, the official added that Glo was the first telecommunications company in Nigeria to introduce the pay-per-second form of billing, thereby breaking the industry monopoly held by foreign companies. The official categorically stated that the report against the fully indigenous telecommunications company was false.
