The chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Felix Hassan Hyat, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to rig rerun elections in seven local government areas. The areas in question are Kaduna South, Chikun, Kauru, Igabi, Kudan, Kachia, and Kagarko.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the chairman, the PDP is concerned that the APC is colluding with corrupt officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to subvert the will of the people. The PDP alleges that the APC plans to buy votes or deploy thugs to unleash violence if vote buying fails.
Furthermore, the PDP claims that the APC is working with corrupt INEC staff to obtain fake copies of Forms EC8A, which are used to record polling unit results. The party alleges that the fake forms will be used to enter predetermined results, which will then be swapped with the genuine ones in areas where the APC is not comfortable with the margin of lead.
The PDP has called on the commissioner of police and heads of relevant security agencies to ensure professionalism, patriotism, and impartiality during the elections. They have also called on INEC to ensure that their staff exercise maximum restraint and avoid any acts of manipulation.
It is important for the rerun elections to be conducted fairly in order to uphold the integrity of the democratic process in Kaduna State. The allegations made by the PDP highlight the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process to prevent fraudulent practices.
