Nigeria’s social media space has been agog about the certificate forgery being levelled against the Honorable Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun about an alleged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate she’s been using to work not being original.
Premium Times broke the news over the weekend that the minister, who is one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s frontline cabinet member, skipped the compulsory NYSC program, and went ahead to forge an exemption certificate many years after. By all standards, this is a grave allegation punishable under the law of Nigeria if the finance Minister is investigated and found wanting of this allegation.
Since the news broke out, the miniter of finance is yet to issue any statement, neither is the Federal Government as well, on this matter. One then begins to wonder why the minister has kept mum over this issue. Today, premium times also went ahead to put online the purported NYSC discharge certificate in question, being used by the honorable minister. Whether this matter would be swept under the carpet as usual, time would tell. But of course, this is Nigeria, where anything and everything is possible!
However, the National Youth Service Corps on Monday said the honourable minister did apply for an Exemption Certificate. But what the statement failed to address is whether the said certificate was issued her or not. Till now, there is still so much ambiguity surrounding the whole matter.
Nigerians can only hope that the Honourable Minister of Finance would one day, table her own side of this story.
