The Lagos State Government has alerted entertainment establishments in the state about the sale and distribution of counterfeit beverages. Mr Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, emphasized the potential dangers to public health and safety due to these fake drinks. He called for concerted efforts to eliminate substandard products from being sold in clubs and restaurants.
Aregbe also assured the public that measures were being put in place to eradicate fake drinks, including collaboration with relevant agencies.
“We urge all clubs, restaurants, and public establishments that sell drinks to be careful and make sure they do not purchase or sell counterfeit drinks to unsuspecting customers,” he stated.
Aregbe guaranteed the public that there would be a thorough effort to remove counterfeit drinks from the markets.
He clarified that the state would be collaborating with the Director of Investigation and Enforcement at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mr Ononiwu Ezeribe, and the Lagos State Safety Commission headed by Mr Lanre Mojola.
He cautioned that any entertainment venue or event discovered serving or selling counterfeit drinks would be immediately shut down and have their operating license suspended.
He stated that strict measures would be implemented to protect the health and safety of Lagos residents and visitors.
He revealed that the ministry is working with other relevant agencies to ensure complete compliance with the eradication of counterfeit drinks.
