Phil Foden is currently playing the best football of his career at Manchester City and team-mate Kevin De Bruyne believes that there’s plenty more to come in the future from the England star
Kevin De Bruyne has backed Manchester City team-mate Phil Foden to "make football history for the next 15 years."
Foden, 23, is enjoying what's widely regarded as his best ever season for City, having broken through during the 2017-18 season. On course of a sixth Premier League title this term and still in with a chance of picking up another Champions League winners' medal, there's already a huge amount of expectation on the England international to finish his career with a stacked awards cabinet filled with team honours and individual accolades.
De Bruyne, who's been the star of City's midfield during his nine years at the club, is ready to pass the torch to Foden and waxed lyrical about him ahead of Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid.
"He is one of the greatest talents I have played with," the Belgian stated in an interview with Telefoot. "He can make football history for the next 15 years."
It's not the first time that De Bruyne has heaped praise on Foden, as after City's recent 4-2 win against Crystal Palace, the 32-year-old told TNT Sports: "Phil has been amazing this season so he deserves it. And it keeps me on my toes to give me that little push."
De Bruyne added: "I've been with Phil for about seven years so I don't really feel he's a youngster anymore, he's an established superstar in our team, he's been here that long. He's just amazing."
Foden scored another spectacular goal in the first leg of City's Champions League tie last Tuesday, his 22nd strike of the season. That came less than a week after the Stockport-born sensation netted a hat-trick in the reigning champions' 4-1 win over Aston Villa.
Post-match, manager Pep Guardiola said that Foden "can do whatever he wants" with his talent. "He's a real top-class player. We know it," Guardiola declared.

"But he is still open-minded, he has to understand the game. He has to focus on things – sometimes he's a bit distracted in exactly what you have to do offensively and defensively.
"But he has a natural talent – a gift – which is special.
"The work ethic is unbelievable and he has an incredible sense of goal. When he has the ball and he's attacking the back line he is going to score – you had that feeling. It's not easy to find it and that's why he's so special when he's playing these central positions."
