The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has achieved significant success in ongoing clearance operations within the Lake Chad basin against Boko Haram terrorists. Chief of Military Public Information, Lt-Col Abubakar Abdullahi, reported that the operations led to the killing of numerous Boko Haram members, with many surrendering.
From February 10 to 20, all four MNJTF sectors recorded successful engagements. Notable victories included the seizure of 92 ammunition belts in Cameroon, the surrender of Boko Haram members in Chad and Nigeria, and the recovery of arms and ammunition from repentant insurgents. Additionally, MNJTF troops in Bagasola, Chad, inflicted casualties on Boko Haram elements and recovered three canoes at Tchokou in a high-impact offensive.
Furthermore, on February 20, the Chadian Air Force conducted a successful airstrike on Boko Haram strongholds along the Lake Chad border, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists. In Niger Republic, troops disrupted an arms smuggling attempt, seizing a cache of weapons including AK-47 rifles, magazines, and ammunition.
Despite these successes, two soldiers, one from Nigeria and one from Chad, were killed, and three others were injured. The operation’s aim is to strengthen free movement and reinvigorate economic activities in the region. The MNJTF’s persistence in offensive campaigns has significantly weakened Boko Haram’s operational capabilities, dealing a substantial blow to the insurgency’s support networks.
