Nigeria ended their campaign at the 2016 ITTF Africa Junior and Cadet Championship in Algeria without gold.
The 20-team tournament, which began on April 6, ended on Tuesday.
Nigeria lost to Egypt in the finals of the junior mixed doubles and junior girls’ doubles.
Egypt’s Alhodaby Mariam and Yousry Amira beat Nigeria’s Ajoke Ojomu and Esther Oribamise 3-0 to win the mixed double. In the girls’ double Egypt’s Abdel-Aziz Youssef and Mariam Alhodaby beat Nigeria’s Solanke Azeez and Ajoke Ojomu 3-2 in the final.
Egypt amassed a total of 15 gold to win the competition followed by Nigeria, who garnered four silver and four bronze. Tunisia placed third with three silver and two bronze. Algeria finished fourth with two silver and five bronze. Congo’s nine-man team claimed two bronze while Angola and Mauritius won one bronze each.
Nigeria, Egypt and Tunisia also qualified to represent Africa in the boys’ team event at the 2016 ITTF World Junior Championship in Cape Town, South Africa in November while Nigeria, Egypt and Algeria will represent the continent in the girls’ team event of the competition.
In the cadet division, Oribamise made the eight-man African team for the 2016 ITTF World Cadet Challenge in Shanghai, China in October after she finished third in Algeria.
