According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Federal Government of Nigeria will begin discussions on a new minimum wage with labor unions in March.
Idris made this announcement at the 21st Daily Trust Dialogue in Abuja. He mentioned that President Bola Tinubu had initially promised to pay a N25,000 wage award to workers to cushion the effects of removing fuel subsidy.
However, after negotiations with the labor unions, they agreed on an amount of N35,000, which will be paid for six months from September 2023 to February 2024.
Following this, the government and labor unions will come together again in March to discuss a new minimum wage for workers.
