The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of showing a lack of empathy for the suffering Nigerians are going through. NEF’s spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, lamented the increasing cost of living, especially in terms of food prices, which has led to widespread hunger and malnourishment in the country. Suleiman emphasized that while Nigerians are struggling to feed themselves, those in power appear to be living in denial and self-isolation.
According to Suleiman, the unchecked rise in inflation has devastating consequences for ordinary Nigerians. The prices of essential commodities such as rice, beans, and cooking oil have continued to skyrocket, making it increasingly difficult for families to afford necessities. Furthermore, small businesses are struggling to survive as the cost of raw materials and transportation continues to rise.
The statement by NEF highlights the disconnect between the reality on the ground and the actions of the leaders. It demonstrates the indifference of those in power to the suffering of the people they are meant to serve, which is deeply troubling.
This criticism comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with various economic challenges, including high inflation and unemployment rates. The rising cost of living has put significant strain on the population, and the NEF’s statement reflects the frustration and concern of many Nigerians.
