The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Lagos State branch, has decried desperation for political offices in the country, saying people seeking elective positions should be selfless.
The Chairman, Bishop Olusola Ore, who spoke at the inauguration of the new executive members of the association in Lagos on Tuesday, urged Christians to participate fully in the electoral process.
He said, “Nigeria is our country, so we have a stake here. We must participate in the election process. We have been telling Christians in Lagos to register for their Permanent Voter Cards and vote on the day of election.
“For politicians, if their intention is to serve, then there is no need for this do-or-die thing going on all over the place. If they are desperate, then it means they don’t want to serve. I want them to know that God watches over everything. I wonder why people would want to kill because they want to get into political positions.”
Ore, who was reappointed for another term in office, said the new executives would focus on evangelism, community development and empowerment.
The Vice Chairman, Apostle Iyke Ejiaku, said God was not happy with Nigeria because of self-centeredness.
“The masses are being neglected. People go there (political offices) to build their own empires. God is not happy with this country because most of our leaders are self-centered. People should go into offices to serve God by serving the people,” he added.
Ejiaku appealed to churches to emphasise more on righteousness, integrity and accountability.
The General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Rev. Felix Meduoye, who is also the National Treasurer of the PFN, Nigeria, asked the new executive members to “breathe a new lease of life” into the association.
