The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four people suspected to plan an attack on the presidential flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and his properties in Yola.
The Atiku Media Office in a statement on Monday claimed that the Adamawa police arrested a suspect known as Jubrila Mohammed, 29, who confessed to being a Boko Haram member from Damboa in Borno State.
The Adamawa police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje also confirmed the arrest after which the security operatives said that the arrest of Mohammed at the residence of Atiku helped them in nabbing three other alleged accomplices of the suspect.
The police claimed that the suspects confessed that they were planning an attack on Atiku and his organisations.
“We wish to alert the Nigerian public that at about 9:44 p.m. on Sunday, 23 July 2023, a man seeking to confirm the residence of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar in Yola was apprehended at the gate of the residence,” the statement read in part.
“The man who was apprehended by security operatives at the residence of Atiku Abubakar was later handed over to the police.
“Upon further interrogation by the police, the suspect identified himself as a 29-year-old Jubrila Mohammed and confessed to being a Boko Haram member from Damboa in Borno State.
“The suspect also informed the police that he and his colleagues, who were later arrested too, intended to attack organisations associated with Atiku Abubakar and some other sensitive locations in Yola.”
According to the police, all four suspects have been handed over to military authorities.
The police further asked that other relevant security agencies remain on top of their brief.
The PDP in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, has called for an investigation into the reported terrorist attack on Atiku.
The PDP said that the party was alarmed by the reported foiled terrorist attack on Atiku and other sensitive locations in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state.
Ologunagba alleged that by the confession of the arrested suspected Boko Haram member, the plot appear to be a sponsored attempt on the life of Atiku.
