What’s the story?
Real Madrid have been pursuing Donny van de Beek for a long time now and it seems like the Dutch international’s move to the Spanish capital is all but complete. Reports claim Ajax and Los Blancos have agreed a €60 million fee in principle and the player is set to sign a five to six-year contract.
In case you didn’t know…
Van de Beek scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists for Ajax during the 2018-19 season, including four goals and two assists in the Champions League. The Dutch sensation was vital to his side’s dream UEFA Champions League run last year alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong.
The heart of the matter…
If reports coming out of the Netherlands are to be believed, Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of Donny van de Beek. The Spanish side are set to pay €60 million for acquiring the services of the Dutchman and the 22-year-old is expected to sign a five to six-year contract.
The player attracted huge interest from top clubs which included Inter Milan, Napoli and more but it seems like he is set to don the white of Madrid this coming season. Van de Beek is a cheaper alternative to Paul Pogba and his high work rate and excellent movement makes him one of the best midfielders in the market and also an interesting prospect for the Spanish giants.
It was claimed that Zinedine Zidane’s priority was Pogba but reports suggest Madrid never dropped their interest in van de Beek as they look to strengthen their midfield this summer. Pogba’s transfer has seen some complications as Manchester United are holding out for a huge fee.
What’s next?
It will be interesting to see how Zidane sets up his squad for the coming season after splashing huge amounts of cash on a re-build. It is yet to be seen if Real continue their pursuit of the Frenchman.
