The House of Representatives in Nigeria has called on the CEOs of several key government entities, including NNPC Ltd, NPA, FAAN, Ministry of Agriculture, FHA, NIMASA, BPE, TCN, NUPRC, and NIWA to appear before the joint Committee on Public Assets and Special Duties in Abuja for an investigative hearing on Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) and concessions since 1999. The lead chairman, Rep. Ademorin Kuye, stated that the evaluation of PPP programs and concession agreements is crucial to understanding their role in Nigeria’s infrastructure development post-1999.
Kuye emphasized the importance of PPPs and concessions in driving innovation, efficiency, and national development for global competitiveness. He stated that these initiatives were not limited to physical infrastructures but also extended to education, energy, mineral resources, and public welfare. The committee aims to assess how well these entities have fulfilled their promises, adhered to due process, and optimized operations for the benefit of every Nigerian.
Kuye reinforced the government’s dedication to ensuring that public assets and PPPs operate with integrity and deliver value to the citizens. The committee’s focus is on improvement rather than casting blame, with the goal of charting a course for the optimization of public-private partnerships in Nigeria.
