The Nigerian Senate has summoned security chiefs to discuss the increasing insecurity in the country, including kidnappings, banditry, and murder.
The motion on insecurity was sponsored by all 109 senators. Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed alarm at the involvement of middlemen in the collection of ransoms for kidnappers.
He strongly condemned recent attacks in Plateau by bandits and a gas explosion in Ibadan.
A specific date for the security chiefs to appear before the Senate has yet to be determined.
The Senate held a moment of silence in honor of those who lost their lives in the attacks and the Ibadan explosion before adjourning until February 6, 2024.
