Listen to Podcast: The Correlate of Leadership and Productivity
How Does Leadership Affect Productivity?
Leadership impacts organizational growth and productivity in many ways. However, we will focus on just two; which are motivation and engagement. When leaders motivate their followers or team, productivity is bound to take place. When leaders also engage their team at every level, it also leads to greater productivity. To be a good leader actually means that you get to lead your team to achieve their maximum productivity. This also then means that you the leader must be at your maximum productivity. You can’t motivate others effectively by telling them to do one thing while you do another, especially if your goal is to motivate them to take risks or accept sacrifices. At this juncture, every hand must be on deck.
So, it is important for a leader to motivate and also engage his team if he or she wants greater productivity from them. Let me show us this example in Luke 22:31-32 about how Jesus motivated Peter by praying for him. It says: “And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
Jesus prayed for Peter. When that prayer fully materializes in the life of Peter, Peter is expected to strengthen is other brethren. This is an example of what it means when we say that leadership affects productivity. It is very key in leadership.
How Does Leadership Bring Out the Best in the Organization
When a country, organization, or business is headed by a good leader, everything tends to run smoothly and work well. When the leadership is ineffective, however, then it becomes very difficult for a country or organization to prosper. This then means that leadership impacts the performance and productivity of any given organization. On the other hand, as well, leadership or the lack thereof is a major contributing factor to the success or downfall of many organizations. How then can leadership bring about the best in the organization?
- the right vision must be set
- the right decisions must be taken in every situation
- the right team must be brought on board
If leadership can get these things right, then the organization is going to know it for good. If on the other hand, these aren’t properly gotten right, then it can affect the organization in so many negative ways.
How Does Leadership Bring Out the Best in The Employees or In the Team?
There is no other way leadership can bring out the best in the team other than expressing confidence in the team’s ability to deliver on the task. When a leader listens, provides positive feedback, then the team is encouraged. When there is no environment that facilitates positive relationship between the leader and the led, it stiffens the best out of the led. It does not give room for creativity and progress. So, at every level, it is good that leadership provides that ambience and enabling environment where there is positive interaction between the leader and the team or the employees, as the case may be.
