Elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark has accused Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, of hindering peace in the political crisis that has been rocking the state.
Clark stated that Wike’s continuous activities indicate that he is not ready for peace. Last month, President Bola Tinubu issued an ‘8-point pact’ to both parties involved in the crisis, urging them to withdraw all court cases related to the matter.
While the governor and his allies complied with the agreement, 26 decamped legislative members refused to do so, leading to a judgement by Justice James Omotoso in January 2024.
The judgement nullified the 2024 Budget, which was passed and signed into law by Governor Fubara.
Clark argued that Wike’s disregard for the constitution and the agreement made with Tinubu shows that he is not advancing peace in the state.
He called on Tinubu to advise Wike to allow Fubara to govern the state peacefully. The political crisis in Rivers State has been ongoing and has caused significant disruptions to governance in the state.
Efforts to resolve the crisis have been made, but the parties involved have not been able to come to a sustainable agreement.
