Forty years beginning from twenty-twelve, it was predicted, through careful analysis of events, that the world would know Peace in the future. That places that period in the future to be around 2052. According to the analysis, by the year 2052, only half as many countries will be in conflict, and the decrease will be most in the Middle East, which is currently bedeviled with a number of crisis ranging from violent conflicts and the threats of nuclear weapons in the hands of religious fundamentalists. But the world as it is today is bereft of Peace. Violent conflicts, racism, terrorism et cetera are what is plaguing our world today.
These occurrences have shown how human predispositions could sometimes be violent and how it could sometimes be Peaceful. Because of these predispositions, there are those who believe that genuine world Peace, which is sometimes embedded in valuable consensus regarding shared sacrifices as well as voluntary cooperation among people, is hypothetically possible but only under certain condition: if all human predispositions tend towards being Peaceful. But my line of thought in this piece is to show us from the word of God if genuine world Peace is actually possible and if yes, how it could be attained.
The first thing I will love to show us is this Scripture in Revelation 12:12. The Bible says: “Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” The number one reason why there is so much chaos in the world is because the devil is here. The devil is the father of chaos and instability. He delights himself so much in places where there is trouble and anguish. The devil is anti-Peace. He is a warmonger and a terror.
As a matter of fact, the devil is a terrorist. The manifestation of this side of the devil is seeing in a number of terror activities around the globe. Apostle Paul by the help of the Hoy Spirit in Ephesians 6:12, shows us a picture of what the whole world is contending with. Apostle Paul called them “Principalities and powers, and rulers of darkness of this age — “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” The description mentioned in the passage above gives us a glimpse of those behind the chaos and the lack of Peace in the world.
The men and women who operate in those demonic spiritual offices would go all the way at ensuring that Peace does not reign in the world. Just as God gives certain people the spirit of wisdom to carry out Peaceful and wise enterprise that would bring about world Peace, the devil also ministers demonic wisdom to these principalities and powers to carry out demonic enterprise that would bring about chaos in the world. They love darkness, they thrive in chaos, their strength is in seen the whole world crumble before their eyes. But irrespective of what they do and their activities across the globe, there is sure a promise of world Peace as documented by prophet Isaiah.
In Isaiah 2:4, the prophet described a period when nations shall no longer fight each other, and there will be no knowledge of war anymore.
He shall judge between the nations,
And rebuke many people;
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.
A cursory look at the events in the world shows clearly that this prophecy is yet to be fulfilled. There are nations today who still fight what is known as “cold war” with themselves, even though they are not brandishing physical weapons and killing one another. For example, there is the ongoing trade war between China and the United States of America, there is the constant threat between North and South Korea, there is that cold war between Russia and Ukraine. Even many nations today are engaged in some unconventional wars within their own territories. For example, the battle between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram, the claim by Syria that it is fighting terrorism and not the Syrian people, even though that unconventional war have lasted for more than a decade now, same as with Nigerian government and Boko Haram.
But under the reign of Christ as foretold by the Scripture, the world will come to be at Peace. Zachariah 3:10 says: “I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim And the horse from Jerusalem; The battle bow shall be cut off. He shall speak Peace to the nations; His dominion shall be ‘from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.’” Also in Isaiah 9:6-7, Prophet Isaiah also talked about a period when Peace will reign in the world. During this period, Christ will be in charge and the government of the whole world will be on His shoulder.
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and Peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
From the above Scriptures, we can clearly see that there are scriptural facts that promises a world of Peace and prosperity for all. Pending this period when Peace will reign, you and I as children of God can actually experience real Peace here in the world, irrespective of the chaos and troubles around. What is going on in the world right now is enough to cast doubts and aspersions into one’s earth about the future of the world. Sometimes you ask yourself: What does the future even hold for the unborn generation? Would they also inherit these chaos — pandemic, famine, protests, war et cetera, that is currently ravaging the world? But the truth is, these things aren’t meant to bother you because there is Peace in the kingdom of God where you belong.
Before Christ’s departure, He said something profound to us: “Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] Peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect Peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]” (John 14:27 Amp). Jesus knew there would be chaos in the world, just as there were chaos in His time too while on earth, and He made a way of escape for us. When you give Him a chance in your life, He bestows this Peace upon you and you cease from your struggles. Matthew 11:28-30 (Amp) says:
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no Peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.”
The question then is this: Will you take Christ at His Word? Will you believe what He said that He can give you Peace and you will in turn find rest for your soul? The decision is yours to make today. He is right there waiting for you with an outstretch arms, ready to receive you into this kingdom of Peace. Give Him a chance and experience an unending Peace in every spheres of your life.
I believe you have been blessed!
