Emmanuel Amuneke has revealed that Egyptian club, Zamalek, missed out on the opportunity to sign Victor Osimhen in 2015.
Osimhen, who played under Amuneke at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, scored ten goals to win the Golden Boot.
Amuneke had suggested Osimhen’s name to his former club, but they overlooked the forward and he ended up signing for VFL Wolfsburg in Germany.
Amuneke expressed his frustration with the lack of opportunities given to young players in Africa, stating that the continent tends to favor ready-made players instead.
Despite the initial setback, Osimhen went on to have a successful career, spending time on loan before moving to Lille in Ligue 1 and eventually joining Napoli.
He was crowned Africa’s Best Player at the CAF Awards in 2023.
