The Kogi State Polytechnic in Nigeria has admitted a total of 4,349 students into its National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session. Of this number, 3,124 students have been admitted into the ND programme, while another 1,225 students have been admitted into the HND programmes. These students have been distributed across various schools and departments of the polytechnic including the schools of agricultural technology, applied sciences, art design and printing, engineering, environmental technology, and management studies.
The Rector of the polytechnic, Salisu Ogbo Usman, described the institution as student-centered and stated its mission to build an environment conducive to both group and independent learning experiences. The Rector expressed confidence that the students would contribute to achieving this goal and emphasized the importance of their personal growth and development.
However, the Rector also reiterated certain rules and regulations on campus. The ban on all tribal associations has been stated to be in force until further notice, with the intention to promote collectivity and harmonious coexistence. The polytechnic also has zero tolerance for social vices such as cultism, gunrunning, examination malpractice, drug abuse, and indecent dressing, among others. The Rector warned students that any breach of these rules would attract penalties including expulsion and prosecution, and emphasized the presence of security measures to deal with cultists on campus. The students were advised to report any attempts to recruit them into cultism.
