A few moments ago, I began a series on the 5 things you mustn’t get twisted in life; been persuaded in my heart on our readiness to get things right or straight in this new season, I will move one in this article with two things you and I mustn’t get twisted in life.
Life is both for work and relationship; there are things to get done, and there are people to know, get along with and affect (or influence). I have come to know that we often get from life what we deserve and not what we desire. More often, what we deserve are usually products of who we are as persons and whom we are as a people.
During the colonial era, the experiences of nations were not the same – some nations were masters, while some were slaves or servants. Their experiences were not about what they desired as a people; but what they deserved. Some nations, because who they were and whom they were, deserved to be served by others; while some other nations because of who they were, deserved to serve some other masters for their own law, order, progress and national coherence.
Sometime ago, Moses, the leader of ancient Israel sent 12 spies out to survey the nation ahead of them and bring back report for the rest for effective decision making – see what those men reported:
Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. 28 Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.”
30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”
31 But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” 32 And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. 33 There we saw the giants[a] (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
Numbers 13:27-33
Do you now see that we get in life what we deserve, not what we desire? Those spies (10 of them actually) desired to experience victory over the land and the people they spied; however, they did not deserve victory: For who they were did not represent strength; neither did they get their strength from whom they were.
You see, the difference between a great person and one who struggles; the successful and the unsuccessful; the celebrated and the uncelebrated among others is not usually luck or chance – but their disposition! Even if you are the most favoured, blessed or endowed, if your disposition to who you are is warped; you will not amount to much in life. Therefore, having a good self-awareness is a necessary toolkit for generational influence and affluence.
Should you have difficulty with knowing who you truly are; make effort to know whom you are – who gave birth to you, who is responsible for you, who covers you, who influences you, who provides for you, who formed or shaped you (your thought, stature and posture) and who you are accountable to. If you find out all that, you will know who you truly are.
My advice is simple! You will struggle in life if you get who you are twisted; and the world will not remember you if you get whom you are distorted. Do not misrepresent your true self; and do not be a bad example of your source. If you watch the two very well, you will become an entity in your own time (generation) and possibly, in generations to come.
