Since the beginning of civilization the majority of the world’s population has been in a constant fight for freedom from oppression. It has been the same story all along in many different cultures, a small group of people have been obsessed with dominating the rest of us, and have successfully done so by using force, words and mind games.
Many steps have been made in the right direction since the days of slavery, human sacrifice or the witch hunts, but we really haven’t come all that far. Consumerism and taxation represent the new slavery, and war is the new form of human sacrifice, where billions of souls are wasted in the name of conquest. We still live in an inhumane world where a ruling class dominates and enslaves the rest of us, in every country across the earth it works the same way.
Through all the hardships that our ancestors have endured over the past few millennia we have realized that the kind of life that we were being offered before was unacceptable. In the past few hundred years, people have voiced this realization and rebelled against the ruling class. This kind of situation usually presented itself as a revolution where whoever is in power is removed and replaced with another tyrant and the system stays completely the same.
If there are ever any changes after a revolution they are very small, although the “leader” may change, the concept of authority and the “justified” violence that comes with it continues. If any rights are granted to the population it is a very select few liberties given to a small portion of society. We have seen this all throughout history, the establishment has told the public that everyone will finally be given rights, but that they were only entitled to those rights if they met certain criteria. Additionally, those rights could be easily taken back on a whim, as a result of extenuating circumstances. Usually their criteria will leave out over half of the population. This trick is tragically obvious when looking at the aftermath of the European monarchies collapsing or the end of slavery in America.
Before all of the revolutions took place, no one had any rights except for the monarchy. Then after various revolutions broke out all over Europe the monarchy was forced to give a small percentage of the population some kind of say in how the ruling class behaved.
When the aristocracy finally felt threatened enough, they gave small amounts of freedom to certain people and made minimal concessions on their social policy, but again not much changed, the elite still had an immense amount of power and control over everyone on the planet. Even though they allowed the public to have limited rights, they didn’t give up their taste for control that easy. History tells us that despite what they say, the ruling class is not particularly in favor of the commoners having any measure of freedom.
Now the public will no longer accept the kind of conditions that our ancestors dealt with. Since those in power can no longer tell us to our faces that they believe they are our “divine rulers”, they must instead pretend to be the voice of reason, so we will still listen to them, and they have done a very good job at fooling most of us. They have made most of us think that we are free and that our liberty has already been won, but this is far from the case.
Additionally, how can we say that we are living in a “civilized” society when war, genocide, slavery and other forms of exploitation are taking place all over the globe? These atrocities are unfortunately still a sad reality for the majority of the people on this planet.
Although most of history has been a cycle of oppressive, dominating societies, there have been those times when we managed to win freedom from the aristocracy. Those emancipating times have led to some of the most impressive civilizations seen in the human story. Unfortunately as we saw with the Greek and Roman Empires, after a few generations of flourishing under self-governance a civilization comes to a crossroads.
The wealth and progress of the society attracts corrupt souls that wish to use the region’s power to create an empire. This process is inevitable when centralized control and the belief in authority is present, because it is then easy for a psychopath to come along and hijack the civilization simply by gaining political power and establishing themselves as a so called “authority”.
The struggle for human rights is a struggle against the exploitation of people. It is a struggle towards the freedom of autonomy and self-ownership, the right for people to live as they wish without bothering anyone else. We are all important and vital to the essence of this planet, none of us deserve to be killed, oppressed or marginalized because of the color of our skin, the language we speak, the size of our bank account or the politics of our so called “leaders”.
This kind of mentality where small groups of people are given the power to use force on others without consequence is depraved and is responsible for the dismal state of our civilization. We are making progress, but we must continue to demand that we are given the freedom that we deserve. Many generations of our ancestors have fought to end inequality and oppression, it is our responsibility to carry on that legacy so our children will live in a more peaceful and free worlds then we see today.
